Are you registered to vote? Need an absentee ballot?
The deadline for registering to vote is Tues., Oct. 9. You must be a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years old by Nov. 6, and a resident of Michigan and the city or township where you’re apply to register to vote.
If you're already registered, make sure your family members, friends, neighbors and students are registered too. They can do that at their local clerk's office or by mail -- instructions are online. This election is too important to miss.
The ballot for this election will be longer because of the number of races and ballot questions to be decided. We're suggesting that those who are eligible apply for an absentee ballot so they can take their time making their choices.
To see a list of MEA-recommended candidates and positions on ballot issues for Election 2012, go to the Members Only area at www.mea.org. MEA members interviewed candidates and chose those on the list because they support education and education employees.
