The advent of collective bargaining shook the power structure of the MEA. For years, educated white males serving as principals, superintendents and in other school administrative positions had tightly controlled MEA’s policies and purse strings. But, as bargaining proceeded, it became obvious that the administrators were caught in the middle. By 1970, most administrators had made their exit.
