The Bullycide Project has Michigan roots
Fenton theatre teacher Lori Thompson is amazed at the attention her production, The Bullycide Project, has gotten. The CBS television show, “48 Hours’” aired parts of an East Lansing performance of the play on its Sept. 16 special called, ‘Bullying: Words CAN KILL.” Click here to see a clip of the show.
The Bullycide Project is based on the book, Bullycide in America by Brenda High. It tells the story of 12 young adults who chose to end their lives because of bullying.
The special was shot at the MSU Wharton Center with members of Thompson’s group, the Trust Theater Ensemble, performing her play. In the audience were parents of children on which the show is based.
The group will be performing in Washington, D.C. Sept. 21-22 at a bullying summit.
Locally, the Ensemble will be performing the show Saturday, Sept. 24 at the Flint Youth Theatre, 1220 East Kearsley St. in Flint. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the box office, at the door, or by calling 810-237-1530.
