Learn new anti-bullying strategies
During discussions on SB 618 to lift the cap on charter schools, Sen. John Gleason (D-Flushing) tried to insert amendments that would require all schools to have an anti-bullying policy. His amendments were voted down, but the issue still remains that Michigan schools are not required to have anti-bullying plans or policies in place.
Increasingly, MEA members realize the seriousness of bullying in any form. Whether your school district is working on a policy or already has one in place, try to take advantage of a live bullying conference on Nov. 2 from 1 to 2 p.m. The conference will cover such topics as the effects of bullying on academic performance and strategies to stop cyber-bullying.
The conference is sponsored by Balance Educational Services, leaders in bullying prevention.
