An aspiring writer, prospective doctors, and future teachers are among 33 high school and college students receiving MEA scholarships for next school year.

MEA members serving as delegates to MEA’s Representative Assembly May 1-2 applauded the students as they were awarded the $500 and $1,000 scholarships. Several students responded by turning the attention to educators and parents in the crowd.

“I’d like to thank the teachers who encouraged me to pursue my passion,” said Michelle Landis of Royal Oak, who will study genetics at the University of Michigan. “Teachers have inspired me to be a lifelong learner.”

The MEA Scholarship Fund has awarded nearly $300,000 in scholarships over the past 13 years. This year, 33 recipients were selected from 1,590 applicants.
