Michigan Education Association

MEA Is on a Mission

The Michigan Education Association (MEA) is many things to many people—a professional organization, a school employee group, a union—but the purpose of the MEA has always been to secure the best working environment for all school employees and thereby ensure a quality education for all students.

MEA is committed to creating and maintaining an effective education system that:

  • Supports the development of successful, empowered students.

  • Advances the principles of democracy, human and civil rights.

  • Meets the needs of our global society.

  • Improves the quality of life for all.

MEA provides member services through its various divisions – MEA itself, MESSA (Michigan Education Special Services Association) and MEA Financial Services. These groups work together to provide professional, health and financial assistance to MEA members.

The MEA provides UniServ directors and consultants in the areas of bargaining, communications, instruction and professional development, legal services, political action and research. Whether through training, lobbying, bargaining or communicating, the MEA has, over the years, improved the professional lives of our members.

If you want more information on any of these services and how they can benefit you, contact your local association president and your UniServ director and go to www.mea.org.
