16 schools lose ‘priority’ label

Out of the 40 schools labeled as “priority schools” in 2011, 16 have been removed this month from the State School Reform Office’s (SRO) priority list.  The schools met annual goals in math and reading, are no longer ranked in the bottom 5 percent of all schools across the state, and had at least 95 percent of their students take state exams.

Fewer charter school opening this fall, but total number at its highest

This fall, Michigan will have 306 charter schools with seven new ones opening for the 2015-15 school year. While this is the fewest number of new schools since the Legislature lifted the cap on university-authorized charter schools in 2011, it is the highest number of charters Michigan has ever had.
