Just in time for the start of school, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that middle and high school students start school too early in the morning. With five out of six U.S. schools starting before 8:30 a.m., students are not getting enough sleep time, struggle academically, face increased health risks, and jeopardize their safety. Among U.S. schools, Alaska and North Dakota have the latest school start times at 8:30 a.m.; Louisiana has the earliest start time at 7:40 a.m. Michigan ranks 14th with an average school start time of 7:54 a.m.
