President Steven Cook in the Detroit News: Michigan schools aren't moving forward

The nonpartisan advocacy group, Education Trust-Midwest recently issued its “State of Michigan education report.” The findings are disturbing.
The report shows student performance in Michigan to be stagnant and, in some cases, declining as a result of our state’s “practically singular focus on governance, choice and charter schools as a panacea to our challenges,” according to Education Trust-Midwest Executive Director, Amber Arellano. The report further states that this focus “has not led to a world-class educational system, rather, on almost every metric, Michigan has slipped behind its peers nationally and internationally.”
This report should serve as a wake-up call. . .
