Romulus Middle School featured in Huffington Post

It’s been our message all along—to ensure student success and to turn around struggling schools, the education community has to work together. And right here in Michigan, Romulus Middle Schools is proof of that.

That message has gone national with NEA President Dennis Van Roekel’s featured blog in the Huffington Post’s education section highlighting Romulus Middle School’s success in changing their label of “low achieving school” to a school focused on raising student achievement with the help of all education stakeholders.  He details how the teachers, their union and NEA played key roles in securing a School Improvement Grant, revamping their curriculum, and successfully engaging the community to pass a $10 million millage that would provide needed resources.

Romulus Middle School was also featured in the December issue of the MEA Voice.

Romulus Middle School provides a strong counter argument to critics who say that public school employees and their unions are standing in the way of school reform. It’s a good thing Romulus wasn’t listening to the critics.
