Michigan Teen Feeds a Passion for Politics at Democratic National Convention

Trenton High School sophomore Emily Madden already has a passion for politics – particularly women’s issues – which she got to feed last month by attending the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia as a guest of MEA President Steve Cook. 
 
Madden called it “really amazing” to witness history, watching Hillary Rodham Clinton become the first woman nominated for president by a major U.S. political party. 
 

MEA Statewide S&R Committee recommends Austin for State Board; 4 incumbents for MSU, UofM boards

MEA’s Statewide Screening & Recommendation Committee, made up of MEA members from across Michigan, recently interviewed incumbent candidates for the State Board of Education, MSU Board of Trustees and University of Michigan Board of Regents and decided to continue recommendations for following candidates for election this fall:
 
- State Board of Education – John Austin
- MSU Board of Trustees – Dianne Byrum and Diann Woodard
