Education reform is the hot issue in our classrooms, in our legislative chambers, in our board rooms, and in the media.

For some, "education reform" begins with the premise that public school employees—and their unions—are the cause of our economic crisis and all the problems in education. Some believe that you, and MEA, are the obstacles to effective school improvement.

Such thinking opens the door for corporate reformers to swoop in and slash education funding, gut collective bargaining, initiate state takeovers of schools, and mandate outsourcing of support services.

These are unprecedented times.

And that may require an unprecedented response.
