At Issue: Election 2006
Future of public education at stake in Michigan on Nov. 7
Gov. Jennifer Granholm thanks MEA members
for all they do for public school students.
MEA members and Michigan voters
have a clear choice in the headline gubernatorial
race on Nov. 7.
Gov. Jennifer Granholm, a true supporter of public education and public school employees vs. Dick DeVos, the Amway heir who led and personally funded the failed private school voucher campaign in Michigan in 2000 and who strongly favors privatization.
And while the race for governor grabs most of the attention, MEA members will be making other important choices, topped by the re-election bid of U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow.
U.S. representatives from the state’s 15
congressional districts will be selected
in addition to races in all 38 state Senate
districts and 110 state representative
districts.
Other statewide races of importance
include secretary of state and attorney
general, two seats on the state Supreme
Court and two seats each on the State
Board of Education and boards of
Michigan State University, Wayne
State University and the University of
Michigan.
At stake is the future of public education in Michigan. Your ballot choices can help shape a positive future for public schools, students and public school employees on Nov. 7.
