Tim McMann, 64, of Midland isn’t one to spend retirement in an easy chair. He retired as a classroom teacher in 1999 and keeps a busy schedule of association activities. We caught up with him at the MEA Summer Leadership Conference at Saginaw Valley State University in August for this interview.
Position: Spent 30 years as a business teacher, the last 28 in Midland Public Schools at the middle school and high school levels.
Words that describe me: Good, hardworking teacher and union member.
Since retiring: I’ve served as MEARetired Region 12 director and president of the East Mid-Michigan Chapter of MEA-Retired.
Activities I enjoy: Motorhoming and rebuilding our home on Sanford Lake in Midland County.
My next goal: Spending more time riding my pontoon boat on Sanford Lake.
What I like about retirement: Every day you get to choose your own agenda, and you can change that agenda as the day progresses.
I’m most proud of: Celebrating my 40th wedding anniversary with my wife and best friend, Peggy. We’re certainly proud of our wonderful daughter, Lori McMann.
Why I’m still active in MEA-Retired: I believe you’re an educator forever, and we must continue to tell everyone about the great job public education does for our students. And, as retirees, it’s important for all of us to remain active to protect our retirement and health benefits.
