Spring RA
Frank Burger, For NEA director
MEA Board member Frank Burger, a teacher in the Carman-Ainsworth school
district near Flint and candidate for NEA director, has been active at the local,
region, state and national levels. He has served the Carman-Ainsworth EA as
vice president, bargaining team member and Web master. He has been an MEA
and NEA Representative Assembly delegate. He has been Region 10 president
and vice president and served on the MEA Credentials Committee. Burger also
has served as secretary of the NEA Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender
Caucus, a midwest regional director for the caucus, and trainer for the National
Training Program on Safety, Bias and GLBT Issues.
I grew up in a union household (my mother was an MEA member) and was taught from an early age how belonging to a union changed our lives…health benefits, a living wage, sick days. The list is endless.
I currently teach in the Carman-Ainsworth school district. I have held many MEA leadership positions that I believe have prepared me to represent you on the NEA Board of Directors.
The attacks on unions are escalating, and I believe that the NEA and MEA must continue to defend our way of life for the future of the middle class. If you elect me to the NEA Board, I will stand up for what is right and listen to all sides of an issue.
In addition, I will lobby our legislators in Washington to fix and fund NCLB. I have a very good relationship with my U.S. Representative, Dale Kildee. Because of that relationship, he listens to me about the concerns of educators in Michigan.
My skills in lobbying will help MEA members to have a strong voice in shaping education policy in the years to come.
I want to represent you on the NEA Board of Directors. When you cast your ballot for me at the MEA RA, you cast it for a leader that will represent all MEA members in Michigan.
