Spring RA delegates to elect MEA officers, NEA directors, adopt 2008-09 budget
Three MEA officers and two NEA directors will be elected by delegates to the Spring Representative Assembly April 25-26 in Lansing.
While MEA President Iris K. Salters and Vice President Steven Cook are running unopposed for three-year terms that begin on Sept. 1, four candidates are vying for the MEA secretary-treasurer position.
Incumbent Secretary-Treasurer Peggy McLellan is being challenged by Michael Graves of Southfield, Chris Korbel of Traverse City and Jerry Swartz of Lansing.
Katherine Murphy of Van Buren Public Schools in Wayne County and Frank Burger of Carman-Ainsworth near Flint are unopposed for two NEA director seats.
Nominations for these positions also can be made from the floor at the Spring RA. Candidate biographies and statements follow. The statement for president cannot exceed 750 words, while statements for vice president, secretary-treasurer and NEA directors are limited to 350 words, plus biographical information.
