Less than one week remains to register for MEA’s biggest conference of the year at early-bird rates. Don’t miss out on the 2018 Bargaining, Public Affairs & Professional Development Conference.
The Feb. 8-9 event at Cobo Center in Detroit will feature training sessions in advocacy, negotiations, communications, member engagement, political action, and professional development. This year’s theme is “Nevertheless, We Persist—Don’t Stop Believing.”
Members and leaders alike leave this annual conference with new tools—but they also discover a new sense of spirit and motivation to lead, as they explore answers to their toughest challenges: how to have one-on-one conversations with prospective members; the dos and don’ts of bargaining; the nuts and bolts of processing grievances; planning member engagement activities that strengthen bonds; communicating members’ stories to reframe the public conversation; advocating for members in a hostile administrative environment; and engaging in legislative and political action.
We all understand the anti-union forces attempting to undermine quality public education for all in the name of profits for the few, says MEA President Paula Herbart. Attending the Bargaining, Public Affairs & Professional Development conference provides the means to fight back.
“Our students are counting on us,” Herbart says. “Our communities are counting on us. We are the voice of quality public education for all, and we will not be silenced. We still believe, and we will persist!”
Register online by Jan. 12 to receive the special rate of $200. Beginning Jan. 13, online registration will no longer be available; registration will be processed on-site, and the rate will go up to $350.
