Local leaders in Parchment and Utica – where contract talks have stalled – are asking union members from neighboring communities to join them in informational picketing next Monday evening.
The Parchment EA has been working without a contract this year while fighting for fair pay and restoration of planning time to teacher schedules. In Utica EA, the district wants major concessions, including a permanent reduction in salary, reduced benefits, and cuts to pay for coaches and club sponsors.
PEA members and leaders will be picketing before the next school board meeting and are asking all area MEA members and staff to join them, from 6:15 – 7:00 p.m. Oct. 23 at Parchment High School, 1916 East G Avenue. Picket signs will be available or you may bring your own. Contact the Kalamazoo MEA Office with questions at 269-344-7428 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
UEA also requests all area MEA members and staff to join them in picketing from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. Oct. 23 at 14201 Canal Rd. in Sterling Heights. Bring your local’s picket sign and dress for the weather. Contact UEA President Liza Parkinson at email@example.com with questions.
