According to media reports, Gov. Snyder will present an education budget on Wednesday recommending a per pupil increase of more than $233 for next year.
“We look forward to seeing the details of Gov. Snyder’s budget presentation next week,” said MEA President Paula Herbart. “While these early reports are promising, we need to see the full extent of how the governor intends to address our school funding shortfalls, especially in light of the string of studies that show that we’ve been shortchanging Michigan students for years. Now is the time for strong leadership on fixing our broken school funding system so we can help all students prepare for a great job.”
Stay tuned next week for updates from MEA about Snyder’s budget presentation and then, throughout the spring, how the Legislature responds to that proposal in passing a new budget for the 2018-19 school year
